We moved to Three Hills, AB. from rural Manitoba in 2000. When we arrived we had about 100 costumes that had been designed and sewn by Vicki for various school, church and community theatre productions. Quickly we came the realization that costumes were in big demand by not only the local college, schools and community theatre in Three Hills but also beyond our small town. Within two years we were sending costumes to communities within a 2 hour radius. After several moves we purchased a building on Main Street and in June, 2006 the Tickle Trunk was born. In November 2015 we purchased an even larger store. At present we have 3000 square feet of store front which house the rental costumes and a 3500 square foot warehouse.

Our in house designer, Vicki, can create whatever you are looking for if we do not already have it in stock. Costumes for entire shows can be ordered and rented for the length of your production. See the list of productions we have already costumed under “Our Services” heading -Theatre Production Costume Rentals. Custom orders can be created for yourself or your theatre. In the last few years we have shipped costumes to Grande Prairie and High Level, AB., Texas, New Mexico and even Saudi Arabia. Alterations to formal wear and wedding parties are a large part of what keeps the Tickle Trunk humming. Vicki altered a wedding gown and then sent it to Australia. Custom wedding gowns and grad dresses are also in high demand. With the addition of Black & Lee Formal Wear we can now make the grooms look as good as the bride. Or almost as good.

In June 2016, Tom Jackson came to visit the store and add it to his list of "must be seen" for his show "Spirit of the Badlands". We met up again in 2017 at the Good Knights Encampment, located just south of Three Hills. And again that December in Banff where we are Santa and Mrs Claus at the Fairmont Banff Springs and Tom was presenting his Huron Carol.

In April 2016 the Tickle Trunk won the Sponsor's Choice Award at the Calgary Comic Expo. Vicki was wearing her design of the Blue Fairy featured in Once Upon a Time. The Costume Contest was sponsored by Zoltan Gal, out of Calgary. In September 2016 Vicki won the Best Costume Award in the Master’s Division at the Edmonton Comic Expo, wearing her “Ursula” (from the Little Mermaid) costume. There were four divisions; Youth, Novice, Journeyman and Master. Darrell was also awarded one of the Crew’s Choice Awards as the crew’s favorite as “Gepetto” (from Pinocchio). In April 2017, Vicki once more came away with a Top Award at the Calgary Comic Expo. She won the Craftsmanship Award in the Master’s Division with her "Red Queen" from Tim Burton’s Alice Through the Looking Glass.

Costumes from the Tickle Trunk were used in a Music Video created by students at S.A.I.T. in 2016 They were also used for a photo shoot for a book cover and were seen in an episode of "Wynonna Earp" In October 2016, the Tickle Trunk supplied costumes for an independent short Western and plans are in the works to make it a full length feature in the near future. In 2018 Vicki supplied costumes for a video diected and produced by a gentleman from the Tsuu T'ina nation in reaction to the Springbank Dam project. The Opera "Carmen" was presented at the Badlands Passion Play Site in Aug of 2018 and the majority of the costuming was supplied by Vicki and The Tickle Trunk. A cast of 50 - some from Europe and some locals presented the Opera to a crowd of over 1000. Vicki has recieved her IASTE212 permitee status so she can now officially work on movies and film. Darrell and Vicki have had a few years of experience working as background on film but now Vicki hopes to get some wardrobe experience in the near future.

The only limitation is your imagination.
